Enemies and Playmates:
Lauren’s family preserves a grand pretence that contradicts their actual lives. Alex, Lauren's father, keeps a tight rein on his family through physical abuse, manipulation, and fanatical control. Because of this, Lauren doesn't believe she could ever trust a man, much less fall in love with one.
When Lauren meets Ryder, her defensive wall is destroyed. She falls utterly in love. It turns out that Ryder is a private detective who once worked for her father, and defied him. He is the ultimate subject of her father’s uncontrollable rage.
Amidst loss, treachery, and her father's damaging pursuit of Ryder, Lauren finds the trust and love she had always longed for.
In Enemies and Playmates, the characters are lifelike and there are sufficient twists
and turns to keep you interested. The abuse endured by the family is handled in
such a way make it convincing. The romance content of Enemies and Playmates is not sugar-sweet or particularly
detailed. I suppose well-balanced is the way to describe the whole book.
Be aware, the abuse might upset some people.
