The Litigators

Tell Me a Story - Book Review

Author - John Grisham
Title - The Litigators
Stars - 5
With their new associate on board, Finley & Figg feel they are equipped to confront a big case, a case that could make the partners rich without necessitating them to actually practice much law. A popular drug, Krayoxx, a best-selling cholesterol reducer for the morbidly obese, manufactured by Varrick Labs, has recently come under fire after several patients suffer heart attacks. Finley & Figg smell money.

A little research confirms their suspicions, a plaintiffs’ firm in Florida is putting together a class action suit against Varrick Labs. All Finley & Figg have to do is find a few people who had heart attacks while taking Krayoxx, persuade them to become clients, join the class action, and ride along to fame and fortune. All being well, they won’t even have to enter a courtroom.

It almost seems too good to be true, and it is.

The Litigators is an amusing romp, filled with the kind of courtroom strategies, theatrics, and suspense that have made John Grisham America’s favourite storyteller.

The Litigators goes deeper into the characters than some of John Grisham’s more recent stories. This is a definite page-turner, with an affable hero, interesting yet flawed minor characters, and an intriguing glimpse into the legal world - and a good dollop of humour. It feels like he had fun writing this book. The ending is worthy of John Grisham, and The Litigators is highly recommended.
